WestJet's Competitor

Where there’s business, there’s competition, WestJet being in the big market like other businesses encounters competitors. WestJet’s leading competitor is Air Canada.

Air Canada is one of WestJet’s leading competitors and WestJet is in the hope to outrun it. WestJet claims to be directly affected by Air Canada’s decision to join with a U.S partner. This is because the routes that would then be taken would affect WestJet’s sales greatly. WestJet competes directly against Air Canada on three of the routes which are Calgary to San Francisco, Vancouver to Los Angeles and Vancouver to San Francisco. Air Canada’s decision to share competitive information with a U.S carrier makes it almost impossible for WestJet to compete. WestJet wants to compete with Air Canada for business travellers and for that to occur it needs to be on a level playing field with its rival Air Canada. This case is still in process, thus Air Canada and WestJet are equally competitive with each other.

Therefore competition is tough between the two leading airlines. WestJet is relying on Air Canada failing to partner with other competitors; otherwise WestJet will not have fair competition with air Canada. Is there possibly more to WestJet’s hopes of Air Canada not partnering up?
